NT Police investigating Karama death, not ruling out ‘foul play’

A crime scene has been established after a woman’s body was discovered at a Darwin town camp.

UPDATE 12.30PM: A CRIME scene has been established after a woman’s body was discovered at a Darwin bush camp.

NT Police Acting Commissioner Michael Murphy said a 47-year-old passed away on Vanderlin Dr, Karama after being discovered by a member of the public at 12.30am.

Mr Murphy said a rough sleeper waved down police to alert them to the unconscious woman.

Paramedics and police tried to revive her, but she later passed away.

Mr Murphy said he was not aware of any injuries.

Mr Murphy said since circumstances around the event were being determined, police were treating it at “the highest threshold”.

“We’ve declared a crime scene and detectives are currently investigating and speaking to witnesses,” he said.

INITIAL 9AM: A WOMAN has passed away despite desperate efforts to revive her at a bush camp in Darwin.

Northern Territory Police are calling for information following a death in a bush camp in Karama overnight.

Police said a man flagged down officers to assist the woman in her 40s on Vanderlin Drive just after 12:30am.

St John Ambulance NT paramedics tried to revive the woman, but were unsuccessful. .

Detective Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said it was too early to rule out foul play and called for anyone with information to call police on 131 444.

“It is too early in the investigation to say whether or not there was any foul play involved, and we are treating the death as suspicious until it is determined otherwise,” Sgt Evans said.
