A twisted killer who was serving a three-decade jail sentence for the violent slaying of a 16-year-old boy has been stabbed to death in prison.

Aymen Terkmani is understood to have been set upon by an attacker inside Lithgow Jail on Wednesday afternoon, who stabbed him with a sharp weapon.

Prison officers tried to perform first aid on Terkmani as he may bleeding in his cell, before an attempt was made to fly him to hospital in a helicopter but he died en route.

The 31-year-old was jailed for a minimum of 33 years for the horror murder of Mahmoud Hrouk in 2015, in which he lured his victim to a vacant home in Sydney’s west and sexually assaulted him, before bashing him to death.

In a statement, NSW Police said Terkmani’s death had sparked a major investigation, being overseen by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

“About 2.45pm on Wednesday (25 September 2024), police were called to a correctional facility on Great Western Highway, Marrangaroo, following reports of a concern for welfare,” the statement read.

“On arrival, officers attached to Chifley Police Area Command were told a 31-year-old male prisoner was suffering from a stab wound in his chest.

“The man was treated by medical staffs at the correctional facility before being airlifted to a hospital however he died on the way to the hospital.

“The facility was locked down and a crime scene has been established.

“Detectives from Chifley Police District, with assistance from Homicide Squad, have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
