THE eastern suburbs Jewish community is in shock after parents dropped off their kids to preschool, only to find a swastika emblazoned at the front entrance.

The Rose Bay preschool is not a strictly Jewish school but has a high Jewish population.

One parent, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of being targeted said she felt scared dropping off her child to the school.

“As I got out of the car I saw it out of the corner of my eye and I had such a lump in my throat, I just felt sick and confused,” the mum said.

“It’s a horrible feeling leaving your child after that at what should be a safe and happy place.

“It just shows in Rose Bay anti-semitism is so prevalent right now … you want to protect your kids from it but its just the reality of being a Jew.”

The parent said she was used to increased security and threats at Jewish schools, but was especially scared since the preschool is not only for Jewish kids.

“They clearly did their research and found out Jewish kids go there and it is owned by Jews,” she said.

NSW Police said the incident happened some time between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and are appealing for anyone with CCTV to come forward.

The “cowardly vandalism” is another example in a rise in antisemitism , NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Darren Bark said.

“Nobody should have their child exposed to this hatred and intimidation. We’re seeing these vile displays at our football games, at our schools, in our public spaces and now in our preschools,” Mr Bark said.

“This trend is deeply concerning and unacceptable. There is no place in our society for this terrible symbol. It is our collective responsibility to speak up against and call out this hate, wherever it appears.

“Those that commit such acts should expect the full force of the law to come down on them.”
