An anonymous bomb threat forced the evacuation of a Sydney school on Friday morning, sparking a major police operation and aerial surveillance.
The threat was made to St Charbel’s College in Punchbowl as students were arriving for class. Staff and students were swiftly evacuated as a precaution, with helicopters seen monitoring the area from above.
NSW Police confirmed officers responded to the threat at the Highclere Avenue campus and carried out a full sweep of the building.
“A police operation has concluded at a school on Highclere Avenue, Punchbowl,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“A building was evacuated as a precaution; however, all people have now returned. There is no threat to the community. No further information is available.”
Students returned to class shortly before 10am following the false alarm.
