NSW advised to remain calm as cases rise

An irate Ray Hadley has blasted Premier Dominic Perrottet in a blistering dressing-down, roasting him over his decision to ease restrictions across NSW despite the erupting Omicron outbreak.

2GB host Hadley, who is currently holidaying in Queensland after wrapping up his program for the year, rang in to fill-in morning host Mark Levy’s show to issue an astonishing rant about Mr Perrottet, who eased restrictions on December 15 as planned despite Covid cases skyrocketed.

On Friday 2213 new Covid infections and one death were recorded, a spike of more than 500 infections for the second time this week.

Hadley slammed Mr Perrottet’s decision to wind back mandatory mask wearing and QR check-in codes as “utterly inexplicable”, declaring the newly minted premier had signed his ow “political death warrant”.

“He‘s a great man with a big brain, but his brains are in his butt right now … he’s being very obstinate, very stubborn and very stupid, I’m really concerned,” Hadley said.

“It‘s great stupidity … Newcastle is a basket case … because of rampaging numbers in that area, there are people in parts of Sydney who are too scared to go out … he has got to change the narrative and he has got to do it now.”

Hadley said Mr Perrottet could lose the election to Labor leader Chris Minns over his stand.

Hadley added he thought Mr Perrottet would lose the election to Labor leader Chris Minns at the 2023 state election “if he continues on this particular path”, and “wouldn‘t be surprised” if Queensland and other states shut their borders again due to the lack of restrictions amid the growing outbreak.

He said “panic” was ensuing after projections from officials that NSW will reach 25,000 infections a day by late January.

“Someone needs to shake (Mr Perrottet) and say, ‘You are doing this community a great disservice,” Hadley said.

“It‘s about the safety of New South Welshmen and at the moment … he’s got the training wheels on as Premier, we need someone to get in there with a bit more experience and say ’This is a dumb decision, wake up to yourself’.”

Hadley added: “He‘s weak as p***.”

Fellow host Levy also weighed in, calling Mr Perrottet‘s decision to follow through with removing restrictions as Omicron spreads “irresponsible” and ”absolutely filthy”.

It comes as 2GB Hadley sent a blistering text message to Mr Perrottet, blasting him for easing Covid restrictions across the state this week despite a new outbreak erupting.

Fellow host Levy read out the text on air shortly before Hadley made his appearance, which accused Mr Perrottet of being “pig headed” and ”ruining” Christmas by easing restrictions too soon.

“Thanks for stuffing everyone‘s Christmas by being simply too pig-headed and going too early with too many easing of restrictions,” the text from Hadley to Mr Perrottet read.

“The electorate won‘t forget it and I’ll make sure of that. You’ve only had the job a few months but you’ve misread this one. Unless you change direction, you’ll be the next Kristina Keneally, a partial one term premier.”

Hadley added: “Cop a tip from an old bloke who‘s seen off eight premiers, your future will be determined by the next month.”

A responding text from Mr Perrottet read out on-air by Hadley said the premier was happy to disagree with the 2GB host, that his job was to do his best for the community and he wasn‘t concerned with being re-elected.

It comes as a Covid scare has also rocked 2GB‘s Pyrmont offices, with fill-in morning host Levy revealing a staff member had unknowingly brought the virus into work yesterday.

Levy, who announced on air he was working from his Sutherland Shire home on Friday morning, said dozens of staff had been tested and were awaiting their results at home.

2GB’s Pyrmont headquarters, shared with other radio broadcasters, had a Covid scare after a staff member tested positive.

“Our rapid and antigen tests have come back negative and we‘re all working from home until we received the results of the PCR test … I’ll hopefully have the result back at some point today or tonight and that will determine whether I’m free to hit back into the office to present the program,” Levy said on-air.

“When people are obviously maybe infected with Covid we pitch in and help one another, we ensure that the rest of the staff and those we come into contact with are protected from potentially catching COVID-19 … the broadcast is on this radio station we continue to implore people to do the right thing and we obviously practice what we preach.”

Giving listeners a peek into his WFH situation, Levy quipped he hoped the garbage truck wouldn‘t derail his program.

“My only concern is the garbage bins which are currently sitting about 15 minutes away from this window … the garbage truck driver has a habit of making a fair bit of noise on a Friday,” he said.
