Police launch investigation after man assaulted and rare $8000 Pokémon card stolen in Warilla carpark robbery

A valuable Pokémon card was stolen after a man posing as a buyer assaulted the owner during a planned meeting and made off with the valuable collectable.

Detectives are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted and a rare Pokémon trading card, valued at more than $8000, was stolen during a robbery in Warilla last month.

On March 28, a 38-year-old man had arranged to meet a potential buyer for his rare collectable cards in a carpark at the intersection of Lake Entrance Rd and Shellharbour Rd.

Police said the seller was assaulted by the man posing as a buyer, who then made off with a single card.

In response, Strike Force Calmar has been established by detectives from the Lake Illawarra Police District to investigate the incident.

As part of their inquiries, police have released images of a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime.

The car is described as a red 2023-model Ford Mustang with distinctive grey stripes with authorities believing the driver may be able to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Police urge anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle to contact Crime Stoppers.
