A family of a boy missing for three days from Emerald Beach are “completely broken-hearted” as police herald the “remarkable” support offered by locals in the Mid North Coast town.
Jacob Partridge, 17 was last seen by friends near Emerald Beach, 20km north of Coffs Harbour, about 11pm on Friday.
Acting Inspector Nick Dixon praised the “remarkable” efforts of the tight-knit community rallying around Jacob’s “completely broken-hearted family”.
“The family are undoubtedly going through a difficult time.
“They are continuing also to make inquiries and look for their son,” Mr Dixon said.
“It was said to me a number of times that Jacob was a respected member of the community here, as are his family.”
One local, who wished to remain anonymous, said members of the community had come out in force over the last two days to help the search.
“Everything’s been exhausted. There’s nothing more that can be done,” the local said.
“Maybe today or tomorrow there might be some closure.”
The multi-agency land, sea and air search includes the State Emergency Services, Marine Rescue NSW, the Rural Fire Service, Police Air Rescue unit and the police dog unit.
Mr Dixon said they have been searching in bush land and surrounding trails and national parks.
“We’ll continue to search because there’s some fairly dense bush land in this area,” he said.
As to how long the search will continue and whether or not it will be scaled down if it continues into its fourth day Mr Dixon couldn’t say.
“At the end of the day police will reassess the information at hand to determine the following day’s activities,” he said.
