The body of a man has been found days after he fell from the back of a flotation device while being towed down a major rural New South Wales river during Australia Day celebrations.
On Sunday afternoon, a 37-year-old man was reportedly seen falling into the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point from a recreational floating device being towed by a boat.
When he failed to resurface and could not be located, emergency services were notified.
It was previously revealed by police the man was not wearing a lifejacket when he plunged into the water.
An extensive search was subsequently launched by the Murrumbidgee Police District, NSW Ambulance, SES and Volunteer Rescue Association.
NSW Police divers assisted with the search on Monday, before the man’s body was discovered at 8.10am on Tuesday.
A crime scene was established and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The grim discovery comes one month after the body of a 21-year-old man was pulled from the Canberra end of the Murrumbidgee River.
Police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
