Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan has announced she will not recontest the top job at council in this year’s election.

Cr Corrigan was first elected mayor in 2017 and has held the role across two terms. She said the role is a round the clock responsibility that needs new energy and new commitment.

“I have made the decision not to recontest the Mayoral election because I believe I don’t have the energy necessary to be your Mayor for the next four years,” Cr Corrigan said.

“The role of Mayor needs 100 per cent commitment – and it has been my greatest honour and privilege to serve this community.

“I will continue giving 100 per cent commitment right up to the polls closing on 14 September.”

Cr Corrigan made the announcement on Wednesday night at an event for the Serving Mosman council team at Mosman Rowers.

She announced that Peter Ireland will run as the Serving Mosman mayoral candidate in the local government elections this September.

“Peter Ireland led our last campaign and as our campaign director oversaw an increased Serving Mosman team elected in 2021,” she said.

“Peter is an exemplar for his ongoing commitment to community and community service.”

Cr Corrigan is not fully hanging up her political boots just yet as she plans to run as a councillor in the 2024 election.

She was first elected to council in 2012 and served as deputy mayor from 2015 to 2016.

She led the council through the pandemic as mayor and founded the annual Mosman Walk for Women. She was also involved in the council’s fight against a merger with neighbouring councils during her time as deputy mayor.

She ran for state parliament twice for the seat of North Shore against Liberal MP Felicity Wilson.

Corrigan also works as a clinical nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital.
