Mark Latham has labelled his ex-partner a “woman scorned,” and rejected her claims after she accused the MP of physical and sexual abuse including forcing her into “degrading sexual acts”, some of which it is believed occured in NSW parliament house.

Businesswoman Nathalie Matthews accused the embattled independent MP of shocking abuse in explosive court documents seeking an apprehended violence order, alleging the MP “engaged in a sustained pattern of emotional, physical, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse” during their two-year relationship.

The abuse she alleged included Mr Latham engaging in “sexual abuse and coercion including defecating on me before sex and refusing to let me wash”.

It is understood some of the alleged sexual acts referred to by Ms Matthews occurred within the walls of parliament house on Macquarie St.

Sources said the allegations made by Ms Matthews to police - including evidence from her phone and allegations of intimidation - were investigated before it was determined there was not enough evidence to take out an AVO against Mr Latham or charge him.

Ms Matthews’ application – for an interim order to prevent Mr Latham from coming within 100m of her over claims of “ongoing, reasonable fear of harassment, intimidation, and potential harm” — names the former federal Labor leader as having allegedly thrown a dinner plate at her, forcing her to call him “master” and pressuring her to have sex with other people.

Ms Matthews also details claims of “physical violence”, including Mr Latham “pushing me against walls, forcing me out the door, throwing a plate at me during an argument, and driving at me with his vehicle, hitting me with the side mirror and causing a bruise”.

According to the documents, the pair were in a relationship from March 27 2023 until May 27 2025.

The Daily Telegraph understands Ms Matthews confided in friends after the relationship broke down, detailing Mr Latham’s behaviour towards her.

The businesswoman attended a function in NSW Parliament following Opposition Leader Mark Speakman’s budget reply speech, where she told Liberal MPs her relationship with Mr Latham had ended.

In AVO application, she claimed Mr Latham “systematically undermined” by comparing her “unfavourably to other women, acting as if he would harm himself to manipulate me” and monitoring her devices without her consent.

She said Mr Latham “repeatedly manipulated and intimidated” her into resuming their relationship after they had separated, “creating a cycle of fear and control”.

“Breakups in May 2024, June 2024, September 2024, January 2025, and June 2025 were followed by similar intimidation and re-engagement.”

The court documents also allege Mr Latham forced her to pay for international holidays “under duress”, and borrowed $20,000 from her “on four occasions without prompt repayment”.

“The defendant has held intimate photos and videos of me, and I have been afraid he would expose them to shame and control me if I attempted to leave or resist his demands,” the document says.

Mr Latham was contacted for comment.

The MP labelled the allegations “comically false and ridiculous” on social media on Monday night.

“I have scores of documents to show that and will rely upon them to defend myself,” he said on X.

“As the old saying goes, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”.

Mr Latham said that he had not been contacted by NSW Police about the allegations.

Last month, Mr Latham resigned from the Australian Turf Club, claiming he quit because the “leadership” was trying to kick him out, while last year he was ordered to pay NSW MP Alex Greenwich $140,000 for defamation over a homophobic tweet.

GOVERNMENT REACTS

Energy Minister and leader of the NSW government in the upper house Penny Sharpe labelled the allegations against Mr Latham as “disgusting”.

Speaking to media on Tuesday Ms Sharpe said other MPs within parliament needed to re-evaluate their working relationships with Mr Latham.

“These are very disturbing and frankly disgusting allegations,” she said.

“They are allegations so I obviously can’t make too much of it.

“The Labor government has been calling out Mark Latham for several months now in relation to his behaviour in a whole range of different things.”

Ms Sharpe said the government would “look at all the opportunities” to call Mr Latham out for some of his other actions, citing a motion before the parliament referring him to the privileges committee for using parliamentary privilege to divulge the personal medical information of another MP.

“I’ve also put another motion in terms of his behaviour generally… but I don’t want to get ahead of the current allegations as revolting as they are,” she said.

“There is a real question for some of the other parties in the parliament as to whether they’re going to continue to work so closely with Mark Latham,” she said.
