Black Friday sales shoppers in the Sydney CBD got the raw end of the deal yesterday when they were forced to restrain a man in a citizens’ arrest after he allegedly assaulted a security guard.
The 28 year-old man allegedly assaulted a security guard from a Pitt St store about 3:40pm after he was asked to leave the story by the 23 year-old guard.
A trio of bargain hunters intervened in the incident, helping the guard wrestle the customer to the ground by restraining his arms, torso and legs.
The bystanders held the man in place for a short time before handing him over to police, who placed him under arrest.
NSW Police confirmed the man was then taken to Day St Police Station and charged with common assault.
He was given conditional bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on December 18.
