A man has been charged with weapon offences after police allegedly found a prohibited flick knife and a gel blaster pistol in his car on Saturday night.

Officers patrolling Thallon St in Carlingford noticed a parked car with its engine running shortly before 11pm.

Patrolling officers approached the driver, a 32-year-old man from Carlingford, and conducted a search of the vehicle.

Inside, police claim they found two knives — one of which was a prohibited flick knife — as well as a gel blaster pistol.

The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Castle Hill police station, where he was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of a firearm.

“Gel blasters and flick knives are illegal to possess in NSW without proper permits. Know the law — stay safe and stay informed,” a statement from NSW Police said.

“A penalty of 10 years imprisonment applies.”

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court on July 9.
