MP Taylor Martin expelled from Liberal Party after investigation into texts sent to Lucy Wicks

NSW Liberal MP Taylor Martin has been expelled from the party following an investigation into abusive texts he sent to his former girlfriend, federal MP Lucy Wicks.

NSW MP Taylor Martin has been sensationally expelled from the Liberal Party following an investigation into abusive texts sent to former federal MPLucy Wicks, with whom he had been in a secret relationship.

The Saturday Telegraph can reveal NSW state executive members were informed on Friday night of the Upper House MP’s expulsion, meaning Mr Martin will now sit on the crossbench.

The move followed an independent investigation into a confidential complaint made by Ms Wicks about her former staffer Mr Martin, regarding a barrage of abusive texts he had sent her.

Mr Martin, who later apologised for the messages when they became public last year, claimed they were in response to Ms Wick calling him “in the middle of the night” and turning up to his house years after their affair had ended.

The messages had included calling Ms Wicks a “c..t”.

The party had tasked Patricia McDonald SC to investigate Ms Wicks’ complaint.

Mr Taylor — who stood aside pending the completion of the investigation — engaged legal counsel.

Mr Martin told The Saturday Telegraph that he had not been handed a copy of the report, but had been informed of his expulsion.

“It’s come as shock and I’m disappointed,” he said.

NSW Liberal Party state director Richard Shields said the report would remain “strictly confidential”.

“The NSW Liberal Party has received the independent investigation report concerning a confidential complaint against the Hon Taylor Martin MLC. The report is strictly confidential,” he said in a statement.

“On the basis of the report’s findings, the NSW Liberal Party State Director has acted quickly and decisively, ratified by the State Executive, to expel Mr Martin as a member of the NSW Division.

“The NSW Liberal Party expects the highest standards of behaviour of its members and elected representatives, and will continue to strive to ensure those standards are consistently upheld.”

It is understood Ms Wicks has been interested in becoming a Liberal Party candidate for her old Central Coast seat of Robertson.
