Kingscliff explosion: Man dies, woman injured in blaze
A man who sustained severe burns has since perished from his injuries and a woman was also injured in a blaze in the state’s north on Monday. Here is what’s known.

A man has tragically lost his life and a woman was hospitalised following an explosion and unit fire in the state’s north.
Emergency services were called to a single-level retirement unit on Monarch Dr, Kingscliff shortly before 7.30am on Monday to find it well alight.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance to the scene around 7.40am.
Paramedics and the helicopter’s critical care medical team treated the injured man for severe burns before he was transported to the burns unit of the Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Police have confirmed the 85-year-old man who sustained critical burns on Monday has since died from his injuries.
An 83-year-old woman is in a stable condition at Tweed Valley Hospital, suffering minor burns to her face and body.
Tweed/Byron Police District officers are investigating the cause of the fire with Fire and Rescue NSW.
Initial advice to police indicates a leak from an internal portable gas appliance may be to blame.
