A prominent Central Coast trainer who was caught driving over twice the legal alcohol limit at 3am had bloodshot eyes and was slurring his words when police pulled him over.

Wayne Seelin, 55, pleaded guilty at Wyong Local Court to driving with a middle range prescribed alcohol limit after recording a BAC of 0.105.

Police facts state at about 3am on March 3, 2025, Seelin was driving at Little Bay with no headlights or tail-lights on.

“Police could smell intoxicating liquor on the breath of the accused who slurred his words while speaking to police,” court documents state.

“The accused’s eyes were bloodshot and he appeared to have difficulty focusing. Further to this, the accused stated to police he had consumed a “couple” of alcoholic drinks earlier in the night.

At 3.40am, he returned a positive reading of 0.105 grams of alcohol.

Seelin’s lawyer Ryan Finch told the court his client had an unremarkable traffic record.

“He is a horse trainer who had a genuine need for a licence and it was his employment as a horse trainer which led to him being awake at that time in the morning,” Mr Finch said.

Mr Finch said Seelin had received communication in regards to one of his animals and was concerned for that animal and pulled over to send a text message.

“That’s why his lights were turned off. He was in a well-lit area so he pulled over to do that.

“He then came back onto the road without turning his lights on and police identified him and he was pulled over at that point in time.

“There was no adverse or dangerous driving which brought him to the attention of police.”

Mr Finch said Seelin’s offending was “out of character” which was expressed by Seelin’s record and referees, and insight he displayed having completed the traffic offenders program.

Magistrate Justin Peach said he accepted Seelin was remorseful and had good prospects of rehabilitation.

“Your reading is significant, it’s well into the mid range,” Mr Peach said.

Seelin was convicted and disqualified from driving for three months and was also fined $800.
