Offering a tantalising glimpse into how Sydney’s rich and famous party, Francesca Packer-Barham and a cavalcade of her glamorous friends were seen celebrating the billionaire heiress’ 30th birthday at the weekend.
Packer-Barham, the niece of casino mogul James Packer and granddaughter of the late TV magnate Kerry Packer, threw the fancy dress party at posh beachside eatery Mimi’s in Coogee on Saturday.
As rain battered down in sticky weather, a who’s who of the Emerald City’s eastern suburbs set made their way into the do, many holding umbrellas in the hope of avoiding any hair or makeup mishaps in the inclement conditions.
Among those who turned heads was TikTok creator of the year and mum-of-three Indy Clinton, who arrived wearing a loud red swimsuit and red heels.
“Pamela Anderson in case you didn’t catch on,” she wrote online under a video of her blowing a whistle to her 600,000 followers.
Singer Adelén, who was born in Norway but is now based in Australia, wore a blue miniskirt and a white top in an apparent nod to actor Julia Roberts’ iconic outfit in the 1990 romantic comedy film Pretty Woman.
Also seen entering the party – albeit without a costume - was former TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson, who has had a year in the headlines after former Canberra political staffer Bruce Lehrmann’s failed defamation action in court against her.
Packer-Barham was photographed beaming on her special day, lapping it up with her grandmother, Roslyn, the widow of Kerry Packer and a patron of the arts, and her mother, Gretel.
Robert Gates, Packer-Barham’s boyfriend who is in his 40s, was also seen enjoying the party.
Bates was previously involved with a failed start-up called Aquamamma, which marketed “healthy hydration solutions” for pregnant women.
Another attendee was seemingly emulating Tom Hanks’ famous eccentric character Forrest Gump, while another man was dressed up as Super Mario and another attempted to mimic US writer Hunter S Thompson, the author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Bella Wolfgang Clinton, Indy Clinton’s stylish sister, was also seen among the crowd.
“A rare sighting of my sis out on the town,” Bella quipped online about her sibling.
The Packer family has played a big role in Australia’s media and political landscapes since the beginning of last century.
Kerry Packer, who’s family company owned a controlling interest in Channel 9, also founded World Series Cricket.
His son James sold out of Channel 9 so he could focus on his Crown Resorts business, which he also recently exited.
