Liberal Party hit by x-rated photo hack

Liberal Party followers met a rude surprise when the Opposition’s social media accounts shared photos of scantily clad women in what a spokesperson is calling a hack.

Explicit digitally altered photos of women have been posted on Liberal Party social media accounts in the latest gendered problem for the beleaguered Opposition.

Instagram and Facebook accounts for the Liberal Party of Australia overnight displayed images of scantily clad women in what the party is calling an unauthorised hack. The photos were seen just after midnight before being swiftly removed.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the party said the issue has already been raised with authorities.

“Overnight, the social media account of a contractor used by the Party was hacked leading to the posting of unauthorised material on the Liberal Party’s Meta accounts at around midnight,” a Liberal Party spokesperson said.

“All material was removed within 10 minutes of it being posted and the matter was urgently raised with the Australian Cyber Security Centre and with Meta overnight.”

“We apologise for any offence caused.”
