Award-winning broadcaster Lucy Zelic will be writing a regular column for The Daily Telegraph in what she says is “a real honour”.
For a majority of her career, Ms Zelic has been a sports reporter, appearing on radio stations, hosting podcasts and presenting on national television.
But in recent years, the mum of two has transitioned into political commentary.
“It’s something that I’ve become more cognisant of - what world are (my kids) growing up in and what does that word look like - and it all starts with politics, right?”
“I can see just how challenging and how volatile a space it is, but we need people operating within this space to be able to call people to account ... (and) contribute to the narrative in a more common sense way,” Ms Zelic said.
She revealed that foreign aid, equality in sport and citizenship issues are among the topics her columns will focus on.
“I am really excited and I feel emboldened by the fact that I’ve been given this opportunity,” Ms Zelic said.
“One of the things that I truly believe in is the principle of free speech and to feel unbridled by the ability to be able to tell it.”
“I’m excited by being able to speak my truth through my lens and the way I see the world,” she said.
Ms Zelic is hoping to have her first column in The Daily Telegraph on May 1st.
