Despite being named the most influential woman in Australian sport, Mary Fowler is surprised by the attention she’s attracting.

The Matildas star has landed herself a major campaign as the face of L’Oreal Paris across Australia and New Zealand.

Plus, she is the second most Google-searched Aussie by other Australians.

“To be honest I had mixed feelings when I found out about it,” Fowler said.

“I thought it was pretty cool, but mostly I was kind of shocked. I really just see myself as an ordinary person playing a sport that I enjoy, so to think that many people had in some way shown an interest in me was quite surprising.”

Fowler joins the likes of Cody Simpson, Jessica Mauboy and Maria Thattil, who have fronted the brand previously.

The 21-year-old announced her new role on Monday, sharing a series of images of herself to social media, including one image holding a football emblazoned with the slogan ‘I’m Worth It’.

The beauty brand’s tagline is, Because You’re Worth It.

“I think being ‘worth it’ to me is, on a personal level, being able to look at the opportunities that I get and feel that I’m deserving of them,” Fowler said.

“Since I was young I’ve always loved dressing up, whether it was with clothing or trying to use makeup, I think I’ve just always liked to express myself in that way.

“Confidence, to me, is believing in yourself. It’s not thinking that you have to be perfect in the way that

you look or in your abilities or the way that you do your work – you’re not going to be able to do everything perfect – and it’s accepting that there’s beauty in just being you.”

“Confidence is being able to take all that and being,

‘That’s what makes me, me – and I’m just going to show up that way’.”

The deal comes days after Fowler was instrumental in securing the Matildas’ spot in the Paris Olympics with the Manchester City star scoring two goals in as many matches against Uzbekistan.
