Annette Sharp: Justin Hemmes will host Silver Party at his eastern suburbs mansion

Bar king Justin Hemmes will throw open the doors of his heritage-listed eastern suburbs mansion for Sydney’s social set to enjoy a long-delayed gala event.

Two years after the city’s 2020 Silver Party was cancelled due to the threat of the then largely unknown and unfathomable pandemic, the event will proceed on March 19 at Justin Hemmes’ heritage-listed Vaucluse mansion, The Hermitage, the proposed site of the cancelled 2020 event.

“After two years’ disruption and postponement, the Silver Party is finally going ahead and I’m delighted to host it at my home,” Hemmes said.

“The Merivale team is committed to ensuring that this Silver Party is the best one ever.”

It will be certainly hard to top Hemmes’ remarkable home as a party venue.

Coogee Pavilion’s Jordan Toft will lead a team of Merivale chefs catering for the $800-a-head evening, while Hemmes promises a “festival of entertainment that includes some of Australia’s rock and dance music royalty”.

Some 300 guests have been asked to adopt a “haute boheme” dress code, which pretty much describes Hemmes’ own preferred attire on any given day of the week, as a quick glance at his Instagram account affirms.

The event raises money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital — a cause that’s become much closer to the heart of the Merivale boss since he became a father to daughters Alexa and Saachi, aged six and four.

“At Merivale we are passionate supporters of the work that Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Kids Cancer Centre does to improve the lives of children,” Hemmes said.
