From satay skewers to icy poles: we reckon every meal tastes better on a stick — and Sydney in particular is a fan of pierced produce.
From fairground staples like cheese on a stick and dagwood dogs to wacky choices including lasagne and deep-fried cheesecake, skewered snacks have become a quintessential Easter Show experience.
This year the calorific innovation set to get tastebuds tingling is the bacon popsicle, deep fried to crispy perfection by the team at cult burger joint Burger Head.
Co-owner Tim Rosenstrauss is confident the culinary creation will be a hit.
“We made it up especially for the Easter Show. It’s great to be a part of it, it’s a day that brings all parts of Sydney together with rural areas,” Mr Rosenstrauss, who runs Burger Head with business partner Josh de Luca, said.
Available with four different toppings to choose from — cheese, chilli, burger sauce and maple aioli — the new snack is worth sticking around for.
For those after something more, Burger Head’s food truck will also have their most popular burgers available, complete with house made sauces, patties and pickles.
“We’re changing the game of food at the show by bringing in high quality gourmet burgers,” Mr Rosenstrauss said.
“They are burgers that taste good and do good.”
The Sydney Royal Easter Show opens on Thursday, April 1.
