Victoria Hwy ‘closed in both directions’ following fatal crash

A 76-year-old man has been killed while four others are in hospital following a serious crash between two vehicles on a major Top End highway. Read the details.

Update 12pm: 76-year-old man has been killed while four others are in hospital following a serious crash between two vehicles on a major Top End highway.

NT Police are investigating following reports of a two vehicle collision on the Victoria Hwy, about 70km from Katherine.

One vehicle was carrying four occupants aged 63, 63, 70 and 76, while the second was just had a 25-year-old driver inside.

St John Ambulance, Police and the NT Fire and Rescue Service attended and declared the 76-year-old man dead at the scene.

A 70-year-old woman, a 63-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man were taken to Katherine Hospital in critical condition.

The 25-year-old man was also taken to Katherine Hospital in a stable condition.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating and the Victoria Highway, between Delamere and the Vince Connolly Crossing, remains closed.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area as delays are expected to remain for the remainder of the day.

Police urge anyone with information to make contact on 131 444.

The lives lost on Territory roads now stands at 23 for 2025 compared to 34 at this time last year.

Victoria Hwy shut following ‘serious crash’

Initial, 7.30am: NT Police are urging motorist to avoid sections of the Victoria Highway west of Katherine following a ‘serious crash’ on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were first notified of the crash 70km out of Katherine about 6.26am.

There are no details about casualties, but police have described the incident as a “serious crash” involving two vehicles.

“The Highway is expected to remain closed between Delamere and the Vince Connolly Crossing for the remainder of the day,” an NT Police spokesman said.

“Police advise motorists to avoid the area.”
