CHIEF health officer Hugh Heggie has revoked Covid-19 hotspots in southeast Queensland for travellers heading to the NT, effective from 1.30pm on Tuesday.

The now revoked hotspots include Brisbane City Council, Logan City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Ipswich City Council, Redland City Council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Gold Coast City Council, Noosa Shire Council, Somerset Regional Council, Lockyer Valley Regional Council and Scenic Rim Regional Council

People arriving in the NT from those areas will no longer have to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine and anyone currently in mandatory supervised quarantine will be able to exit.

However, hotspot declarations remain in place for Cairns Regional Council and the Aboriginal Shire of Yarrabah.

Dr Heggie said the changes followed the easing of restrictions and high testing numbers which had led to the outbreak being contained in southeast Queensland.

“Significant testing has been undertaken across Queensland, with only three new positive cases reported today and none of them were in the community while infectious,” he said.

“(But) the threat of Covid-19 remains, particularly as we are dealing with the highly infectious Delta variant. As always, I urge Territorians to consider the need for interstate travel and to be aware of any potential consequences.”

Dr Heggie said additional vaccine appointments had been made available across the Territory and encouraged travellers and locals alike to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
