The Northern Territory’s oldest micro-brewery, One Mile Brewing Company, is celebrating its 10th birthday with what promises to be an iconic barbeque festival.

The hobby-turned-business quickly became a Top End institution that outgrew venue after venue, with owners Stuart Brown and Bardy Bayram driven to produce quality beers.

And this weekend’s two day festival at the Darwin Showgrounds will be a celebration of their success over the past decade.

There will be a Bavarian beer hall - Oktoberfest style, an Oompa Loompa band, plenty of kid’s entertainment and big name act Spiderbait.

The barbecue comp will take centre stage with all sorts of meat, and barra on offer, as well as a strongman demonstration with a truck pull and keg throwing over two days.

“We’ve decided to have a bit of a party to give back to the Territory and people that have supported us so much,” Mr Bayram said.

“There’s something for everyone, its entertainment for the whole family, rocking it out with an iconic band and plenty of beers, cocktails and wins to enjoy.

“There’s plenty of giveaways throughout the day including a $6000 Airnorth voucher and plenty of tote bags.”

The brewery has hosted barbeque festivals in the past, but this promises to be the biggest yet, and the first time a competition will be part of the festivities.

And an Australian Barbeque Alliance certified judge will be in attendance to not just judge the meat but also train a brigade of co-judges across pork, lamb, chicken, beef and barra.

“We’ve got a lot of high-ranking cooks coming in to give it a crack so it will be interesting to see who takes out the gauntlet,” Mr Bayram said.

“There’s going to be something for everyone, including food for the vegetarians so everyone can come along.”

Mr Bayram said he and Mr Brown were chuffed to have reached the decade mark having started the enterprise as just two best mates following a passion.

“It’s a great achievement for two local lads to get to this point, and still be here going strong and getting supported by so many locals,” he said.
