Man dies in Alice Springs Hospital almost two months after alleged stabbing

A man has died after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the chest during a major Alice Springs CBD disturbance in May.

A man has died after allegedly being stabbed multiple times in the chest during a major Alice Springs CBD disturbance in May.

NT Police said the 28-year-old, who was 27 at the time of the incident, suffered a serious stab wound to the chest during an altercation between up to 20 people on Gregory Terrace on May 15.

Police and St John Ambulance services provided initial first aid and took the man to Alice Springs Hospital in a critical condition.

He died on July 4.

NT Police in a statement said Detectives from the Crime Command had arrested a 22-year-old man and charged him with acts intended to cause serious harm.

The man first appeared in Alice Springs Local Court on May 19 and was remanded to reappear on July 24.

Police are in consultation with the Department of Public Prosecutions to decide if charges will be upgraded following the 28-year-old’s death.
