Former deputy chief minister Nicole Manison takes Tamboran role

Two key appointments on either side of the planet have marked a big week for aspirational Beetaloo player, Tamboran Resources.
Former deputy chief minister Nicole Manison has announced she has taken a role as vice president of government relations and public affairs at Tamboran, commencing Monday.
“Tamboran’s work to develop gas in the Beetaloo will create jobs and help deliver affordable, reliable and viable power for Territorians and Australians as we transition to more renewable energy in the future,” she posted on LinkedIn.
“It will also deliver royalties to the NT Government so they can invest in important services and infrastructure Territorians deserve and need.
“Tamboran is deeply committed to investing in the community here and already have a strong track record of backing Territorians.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge and working with the great team at Tamboran to build a stronger Northern Territory for everyone.”
Ms Manison was the Mining Minister who oversaw the implementation of a new royalties regime to replace the hybrid model introduced early in the Gunner governnment’s first term.
She also won praise for opening up the Territory’s cotton industry and for publicly raising issues around the NT economy’s preparedness for the shutdown of key mines including GEMCO’s Groote operations and Gove’s bauxite mine.
Her role is expected to be front-facing and will give Tamboran a more high-profile public role in the NT.
Meanwhile in the United States, the appointment by President-elect Donald Trump of Liberty Energy founder Chris Wright as his new Energy Secretary has a strong Northern Territory flavour.
In December 2023, Tamboran announced Wright had entered into a $15.2m with Liberty to provide a modern frac fleet into the Beetaloo to support the company’s stimulation campaign.
At the time of the appointment, Tamboran chief exectuive Joel Riddle said it reflected Liberty’s confidence in the project.
“We welcome the strategic investment from Liberty, which provides alignment between the two companies and demonstrates Liberty’s confidence in the development of the Beetaloo.”
Mr Wright, who has not visited the Beetaloo, once drank frac fluid on camera to show it wasn’t dangerous.
When he takes up his appointment next year, Wright will be charged with implementing Trump’s “drill baby drill” low-regulation energy policy which will have a fossil-fuel facing focus.
“My dedication to bettering human lives remains steadfast, with a focus on making American energy more affordable, reliable and secure,” he said.
