A ONE time Rebels bikie gang president committed “one of the more idiotic offences” of driving in a restricted area at Holtze Prison just 34 days after being released on parole.

Andrew William Summerfield, 27, who was jailed for seven years for a 2016 revenge axe attack ordered on a rival, drove his Holden Rodeo Ute into a restricted section of the prison on January 2 while depositing money into an inmates account.

Judge Richard Wallace said Summerfield stopped at two accommodation buildings, revving his engine and yelling at inmates causing a disturbance, just over a month after he was released on parole on November 30 from a prior conviction.

“This is one of the more idiotic offences I’ve ever dealt with,” he said.

“While on parole you should be watching every step very carefully.

“When you consider the rioting that happened inside the jail last year, how crowded and pent up people are in the jail, any provocation could lead to anything, the only person who suffered anything (by these actions) is you.”

The court heard Summerfield had been on the prison grounds to deliver money to another prisoners account, before deciding to drive past the low security area despite it being bordered by fencing and signage.

On January 5 his parole was revoked and Summerfield was arrested on January 6 were he was held in custody.

At the time Summerfield was not incarcerated and did not have a lawful reason to be driving in the area.

“On face it seems to be pretty harmless, (committed) on high spiritedness,” Mr Wallace said.

“I hope you’ve learnt your lesson, that it won’t happen again.”

Summerfield faced a maximum of six months in prison.

The former president of the Darwin Rebels was jailed for seven years in 2017 for the axe attack which was carried out on the wrong person.

The victim was left with multiple skull fractures and a chipped vertebrae caused a wound from an axe and suffered symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder to the violent assault.

The victim also nearly lost fingers in the attack as he tried to fend off the Rebels henchmen.

A shirtless Summerfield was arrested in dramatic fashion by NT Police’s TRG squad following the incident.

He was lead from his home by heavily armed police dressed in fatigues.
