Darwin and District Cricket Association to be the first competition to use the PlayHQ platform

Darwin and District Cricket Association will be the first to embrace a new statistics hub for players and clubs following the phasing out of the “dated” MyCricket app.

DARWIN and District Cricket Association will be a “bit of a guinea pig” this season, set to be the first Australian competition to use the new sports statistics, fixtures and registration platform PlayHQ

It follows the gradual phasing out of the “dated” MyCricket app which the NT News understands has been beset by glitches and has not been popular with some clubs and competitions.

However, existing player statistics and data will still be accessible through MyCricket.

PlayHQ allows clubs and players to manage registrations, fixtures, ladders, results and statistics, while co-ordinating payments, merchandise and live scoring.

The NTFL currently uses the platform for scores and fixtures.

Darwin and two Queensland winter competitions – Queensland Veterans and another in Townsville – will be the first in the country to use Play HQ.

Nightcliff Cricket Club president Murali Varatharajan said the local competition would be “a little bit of a guinea pig” but it was a step towards a “more supported platform”.

“It’s done its job,” Varatharajan said of MyCricket.

“But it needed a revamp.

“Support staff were usually not available during our season, but I’m told we will have the full support staff available to us.

“There will be teething problems I’m sure. Anything new is always a little worrying.

“But it’s a good step into a more supported platform. It’s a good thing. We need to embrace the change.”

Waratah CC president Simon Matthias said the club was looking forward to seeing if PlayHQ delivered a better user experience than MyCricket.

“MyCricket was OK for things like team selections and viewing fixtures but it did have significant limitations around things like member registrations, the interface with the club website and payment collections,” Matthias said.

“If PlayHQ can deliver what they are promising then it should make life much easier for clubs.”

A Cricket Australia spokesman said MyCricket had become “dated” and needed to be improved.

“Darwin clubs were among the first to take on the Covid-19 protocols and have done an amazing job keeping cricket running over the past two years,” the spokesman said.

“CA is pleased they will be the first to get the benefits of the PlayHQ platform.”

He said it would “make life easier for the volunteer”, taking a quarter of the time for a club administrator to set up a club registration form in PlayHQ compared to MyCricket.
