A celebrity blind cake decorating competition is one just one event at an upcoming Territory Christmas show, which is also raising money for an important cause in the Red Centre capital.

The Alice Springs Christmas show opens its doors at Blatherskite Park this Saturday at 4pm and is promising something for everyone, Central Australian Show Society president Andrew Barrett said.

“There is tonnes happening – we’ve got carnival rides, face painting, inflatable costume race,” Mr Barrett said.

The inflatable costume race is a new one, Mr Barrett said, who also said he’s one of the local celebrities appearing in the blind cake decorating competition.

But that’s not the only decorating competition, with 16 local schools entering the school Christmas tree competition, Mr Barrett said.

The public are able to vote on their favourite to determine who wins, with punters who come along also able to meet Santa and “tell him what you’re looking for this Christmas,” Mr Barrett said.

Amid all the Christmas joy however, the show is holding a giant stocking raffle raising funds for an important cause: palliative care in Alice Springs.

Old favourites such as the giant Christmas are also returning, and anyone eyeing a Christmas with a local flavour will have 47 different stalls to find one, Mr Barrett said.

“I think there’ll be plenty of Christmas shopping to be done on Saturday, and that’s really good,” Mr Barrett said.

Entry for adults is $5 and tickets can be brought at the door, while kids under 15 can come free.
