SPECIALIST relief teams have arrived in East Timor from Darwin to assist the tiny island nation recover from dual disasters.
East Timor has been ravaged by a floods crisis over Easter and a spike in COVID-19 cases.
A statement from the offices of foreign affairs minister Marise Payne and international development minister Zed Seselja said an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) arrived in Dili yesterday.
A senior epidemiologist and health support officer, as well as over 27 tonnes of emergency relief materials, arrived aboard a Royal Australian Airforce C-17 flight.
The package was part of $7 million of emergency assistance from the Australian Government.
It is expected the personnel will provide “technical advice” and assist in public health efforts while deployed.
