ULTRA-ENDURANCE athlete and former sports journalist Rupert Guinness is cycling from Darwin to Hobart in bid to heighten mental health and wellbeing in regional areas.
Guinness left on his 4900km, 12-14 day journey from the Darwin Convention Centre on Tuesday.
He said the event would not raise money but keep the conversation of mental health importance going.
“This journey is about the power of the pedal, connecting people and connecting minds,” Guinness said.
“Getting out of the city and into the outback you meet people and hear people, it is a great way to connect.”
Guinness will cycle for 20 hours a day with a support crew of eight.
“I’ll be having power naps, no long five to six hours sleeps, unless the crew tells me I need it.”
