UPDATE, MAY 21 SAT 12PM: A MAN in Alice Springs was found in the Maccas carpark, asleep and “out to the world” with the “window half down” and allegedly almost three times over the limit, early Saturday morning.
Southern Watch Commander Robert Kent said a 34-year-old man was spotted on CCTV using the drive-thru and then stayed in the carpark for about an hour.
“We attended, we did a breath analysis and returned a result of 0.131 per cent,” Cmmr Kent said.
“I have no idea where he had come from, all I know is that he was asleep in the car park for a good hour after going through the drive through and that’s where we found him with the car still running, window half down out to the world.”
The 34-year-old will be charged later in the day on Saturday for medium range drink driving.
Alice Springs man sentenced
A WHEELCHAIR-BOUND Alice Springs man has been sentenced to 13 months in prison after spitting in the face of a female police officer.
Mike Spencer was sentenced in the Alice Springs Local Court after pleading guilty to three counts of assaulting a member of the police force, two counts of disorderly behaviour in a public place, two counts of a breach of bail, an assault on a person and failure to leave a licensed premises.
Judge Greg Borchers said that on one occasion while at a public social gathering, Spencer was asked to move on and used crude sexual insults towards a female police officer before he spat directly in her face when he was retained due to his behaviour.
Judge Borchers said Spencer’s behaviour was unacceptable.
“It is clear Mr Spencer does not respect our law enforcement agencies,” he said.
“It is also clear that Mr Spencer has problems with alcohol.”
Spencer is confined to a wheelchair due to an infection that resulted in an amputation but Judge Borchers said this had in no way deterred him from using violence against law enforcement.
“No police officer should go to work and leave work having been spat at in the face,” he said.
“It is vile, disgusting, and more importantly, highly unhealthy.
“This court has been informed that police officers have to live with the uncertainty of them contracting some disease because it takes some time to determine from blood samples taken from them as to whether they have contracted any disease.”
