17 AUSMAT team members en route to Port Moresby as part of COVID response
A group of Australian Medical Assistance Team doctors and two pallets of medical supplies left Darwin today bound for PNG to help with the country’s COVID-19 crisis.

A GROUP of 17 Australian Medical Assistance Team members and two pallets of medical supplies are bound for Papua New Guinea on Friday morning as part of the AUSMAT COVID-19 response program.
AUSMAT Bravo team member Dr Catherine Tacon said the 17 team members, who boarded the C130J Hercules bound for Port Moresby were joining three team members already over there.
“We’re aiming to work closely with the Papua New Guinea government to help them strengthen their response to the COVID crisis, particularly their response to the management of acutely and critically ill patients,” she said.

“Our focus will be helping them strengthen their response in the Health Emergency Operations Center and capacity builds their critical care response as well.”
The response comes at the request of the Papua New Guinea Government and on the recommendation of the forward AUSMAT team who arrived on March 23.
