Discover Darwin in a way it has never been seen – or heard – before with a new series of audio adventures that takes tourists and Territorians around the Top End.
New self-guided audio tours recount stories of Cyclone Tracy, highlight history and heritage, and also showcase public art, all for free.
However, it’s not all audio, as punters are encouraged to pop on their walking shoes and journey along while listening.
City of Darwin executive manager growth and economic development Emma Struys said the tours were a great way for people to get out around the city.
“One of our key focus areas is supporting the visitor economy, looking after visitors and inviting people to Darwin,” she said.
“We are always looking for opportunities and ways to do that and one of them we stumbled across was this Free Guides app that we could engage with and provide a new experience for visitors and locals.
“There is a lot of content that’s new to people that probably live in Darwin as well as visitors.
“There’s a lot to learn about Darwin … this is a way you can jump in yourself and see the sights.”
Nearly 600 people have already taken a listen to the audio tours with the Cyclone Tracy 50th anniversary commemorative trail the most popular with 462 listeners.
As well as a place to listen, Free Guides also has a map of each stop along the tour for walkers.
