Hopefully the Cairns Taipans formally retiring the singlet number of club legend Aaron Grabau will be a sign of things to come.
While former players’ numbers like Grabau’s may well go into the rafters as well in the near future – his former teammates such as Alex Loughton and Anthony Stewart, among a few others, are the obvious choices – team success should be an option to hang from the roof.
The grand finals team from the 2010-11 and 2014-15 seasons deserve to be recognised in the rafters along with the minor premiers milestone from 2014-15.
Plenty of other NBL teams and NBA clubs will raise banners for winning their division or reaching a grand final.
History has to be visible, as I was told recently; families should be able to walk in there for games and point up to those banners.
