The Cavenagh St Shade Structure is arguably the most influential piece of infrastructure in the Territory.

While it has taken a fall from grace, placing 27 on our list in 2018, the $2.7 million structure continues to be one of the most talked about Territory projects … ever.

From the vines only just reaching the top two years after being planted, to “overzealous pruning” being blamed for their slow growth, and the government splashing thousands for a university in Sydney to evaluate the “cooling performance of the shading and greenery mitigation structure”, Territorians can’t stop talking about this not very shady shade structure.

And we will all continue to question why they won’t just ditch the damn vines and plant some of the weedy ones in our backyard that won’t stop growing no matter how much we try to get rid of them.

This year’s list (or just The List, as Territorians now fondly refer to it) is full of surprises, kitchen sinks, and powerful new faces.

And there are plenty of falls from grace too among the 120 who made last year’s list.

Don’t forget to come back to ntnews.com.au on Thursday for numbers 100 to 81.

The List will count down to our Number 1 who will be revealed on Friday, December 18.

Editor Matt Williams said The List would be the NT News best yet.

“The panel agonised over their decisions and who to put where; it’s a bloody tough ask when you’ve got so many impressive people who could make The List,” he said.
