Toys R Us launches major closing down sale

A MASSIVE closing down sale has started across all 44 Toys R Us stores in Australia, as the embattled retail business shuts down, leaving 700 workers without jobs.

A MASSIVE closing down sale has started across all 44 Toys R Us stores in Australia, as the embattled retail business shuts down, leaving 700 workers without jobs.

Prices will be slashed by around 30 per cent under the sale, with administrators McGrathNicol saying everything must be sold.

Administrators this week said all Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores and the head office and distribution centre at Regents Park in Sydney would be progressively shut down after a sale process collapsed.

Administrators spoke to employees on Wednesday to tell them that no buyer had come forward.The chain of toys and baby goods stores has been trading since entering voluntary administration in May.

“The administrators have determined that everything in the stores, including well-known brand items, must be sold and have appointed Hilco Merchant Australia to assist with the closing-down sale,” administrators said.

“Information regarding the sale will be provided online, on Facebook, and Instagram. Shoppers should like these pages and visit often for discount changes, store locations and other important updates.”

Toys R Us Australia’s online ordering system will be closed with immediate effect, with all open online orders to be delivered to customers where goods have been paid for in full and the stock is available.

Gift cards will be honoured only until July 5, provided customers spend an additional equivalent amount in a store.

Lay-by will be honoured until the same day, provided the outstanding balance is paid

and the stock is available.

VIP discounts will be also have the same deadline but the ability to earn and utilise points has been ceased with no refunds, returns and exchanges available to customers after July 5.
