Health Minister Natasha Fyles said the women, both in their 40s, had both returned to Darwin after travelling overseas.

The first was a cruise ship passenger who had returned from Europe on the MSC Fantasia, and the second woman had returned to Darwin from the Philippines via Sydney on QF840.

Contract tracing is not required for the cruise ship passenger due to the delay in her becoming unwell, but Ms Fyles said health authorities were contacting people aboard the QF840 flight.

“Both have been following the guidelines and have been in quarantine, so the impact to our community, or the risk I should say, is very low,” she said.

“They are both well but will be, or are, in the process of being admitted into Royal Darwin Hospital.

“One of those women arrived on QF840 on Friday the 27th of March and the Public Health Unit is now working to advise the people that were sitting close by on that flight, so within two rows, that they are a close contact and should be aware of that information.”

Ms Fyles revealed one person has recovered from the virus.

“I do understand that … one of our coronavirus patients has recovered, which means they’ve had two negative tests, and they have been allowed to leave Royal Darwin Hospital, but I don’t know which case that was.”

More than 2100 Territorians have been tested for the virus, with testing expanded last week to include frontline workers.

In total, 16 NT residents have been diagnosed with the virus, including the 15 here and one man who was diagnosed while in NSW and who is now being treated in the NSW health system.
