‘This is gonna blow my mind’: Superstar DJ Carl Cox coming to Darwin for PURE festival

INSTEAD of touring the European circuit this year, an internationally renowned is on his way to Darwin

INSTEAD of touring the European circuit this year, internationally renowned DJ Carl Cox will be headlining the PURE Music Festival.

Usually performing at events like Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival, Cox said it was great to return to Darwin for one of his first “normal” shows since COVID began with big crowds and moshing.

“I reckon this is gonna blow my mind,” he said.

“The last time I was able to do a gig like that was a year ago, and I was in America.

“Moshing and no social distancing, people were having a great time. But now that (COVID) happened, we haven’t seen the likes of that at all.

“Darwin’s going to be like the light at the end of the tunnel.”

In an average year, the undisputed king of techno would travel across the globe preforming at up to 100 events.

“One thing for sure, I am ready to go,” Cox said.

“Since I’ve not done over 100 events and I’ve only done three in a year. Can you imagine the amount of music that I have?

International DJ Carl Cox will be performing at PURE at the Darwin Amphitheatre on May 1.

“The energy that I have? The passion and power that I want to put into my set?

“All I’m telling you is watch out world because I am ready.”

Cox will be joined by Eric Powell, also from the UK, and Christopher Coe from Victoria, along with local talent Pete Stone, Chad Martin and GOVA.

Summer Junkies director Guy Dunne is helping organise the event and said a silver lining of the pandemic was Darwin’s ability to host these events when other destinations couldn’t.

“We’re absolutely pumped to be able to bring an international superstar like Carl and also Eric down when the rest of the world is in lockdown,” he said.

“We’ve been so lucky to get back to some sort of normal before the rest of the country.”

PURE Music festival takes place at the Darwin Amphitheatre on May 1 from 3.30pm to 11.30pm.

The popularity of Carl Cox and Eric Powell’s Mobile Disco event, taking place at the same place and time on Sunday May 2, led to the PURE event being brought to Darwin.
