A teenager competing in a ski racing selection event for the world championships has suffered serious injuries after an accident on the water in Sydney’s south.
The 15-year-old was skiing behind a boat at high speed near the entrance of Botany Bay at Botany when he collided with another boat just before midday on Saturday.
The impact left him with a serious head injury, a fractured leg and a fractured arm.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Geoff Senior said a private medical team treated the teenager out on the water before he was brought into the Kyeemagh boat ramp.
“He was semi-conscious and the medical team looked after him and stabilised him before he was taken to St George Hospital,” he said.
“What we understand is he was skiing at the time and came into contact with a number of boats.”
It is understood the boy’s mother and grandfather were at the event watching him compete.
The family members were gathered at the teen’s hospital bedside on this afternoon.
The two day event was a selection race for the ski racing world championships 2019.
The event continued after police, paramedics and rescue helicopter had left the boat ramp area.
One of the racing boats involved in the accident has been towed to a marine centre in San Souci where police are examining the vessel.
