Coronavirus: Stage two of Australia’s lockdown explained

They are the Sydney restaurants refusing to go down without a fight.

As hundreds of restaurants have already been forced to closed their doors, many more are continuing to innovate and trade in any way they can to stay afloat and feed the local community.

Forced to comply with government policies but also remain competitive, restaurants, cafes and bars are offering takeaway, delivery and discounts as well as making fundamental changes to menus and store opening hours to suit the times.

Potts Point stalwart Macleay Street Bistro has switched out white table cloths and polished silverware for take home “dinner boxes” so their customers can experience their French fare in isolation and instead of paring back hours, they have extended.

Owner Phillip Fikkers said so far he had been seeing promising results from the changes.

“We have increased our customer offer from seven nights and weekend lunches to seven days and seven nights,” he said.

“We’re proud of our team at MSB. The response to date for the lunch boxes has been good and dinner is quite pleasing.

“MSB has been serving the Potts Point dining community for 38 years and we hope that on the other side of the COVID-19 crisis we will be serving them for another 38 years.”

Customers are also treated to a free glass of top tier wine while they wait for their dinner box.

Eye fillet tartare, duck breast with peaches and new addition, traditional beef bourguignon with Paris mash, have all proved popular.

Owner Emma Nguyen said she was continually working on options to keep her customers fed and her staff employed.

“At the moment, we still keep our full menu which has all dishes, and full team of staff still working for me,” she said.

“We are working to develop a few more product options that would suit the upcoming demand from consumers.

“My passion is to care for people, and to share the Vietnamese food to locals, and I'm happy when people can enjoy the quality, hearty food that cooked by our chefs.”
