Senator Sam McMahon said the road was in desperate need of upgrading.
Alawa Crescent will get its $300,000 upgrade under the federal government’s Black Spot Program in 2020-21.
In total, the Territory will receive $2.5m to upgrade six black spots under the program.
“A data survey shows there have been nine serious crashes on this small stretch of road,” Senator McMahon said. “It was identified as a priority and there was a big concern for pedestrians in this area.”
Another black spot under the program is Power Road at McMinns Lagoon, where the federal government has set aside $435,980 to install street lights and upgrade pedestrian facilities.
Senator McMahon said 12 serious crashes had been recorded on that road, including a fatal accident.
“There were a couple of concerns with that road that I remember; one was that Litchfield Council were proposing to put in some money themselves ($62,260), so that helped,” she said. “Obviously, when there’s been so many serious crashes and a fatality, we need to push that right up the priority list.”
The other NT upgrades under this program include a $600,000 upgrade of the Victoria Highway and Wilson Street intersection at Timber Creek.

Anyula Street in Borroloola, specifically a 200m section from Robinson Road, will be upgraded by constructing footpaths and road parking facilities.
In Wagait, parts of Wagait Tower Road will also be fixed by installing guardrails, posts and fixings.
