See you next year: France repatriated arrivals to be first out of Howard Springs quarantine in 2021

ABOUT 150 repatriated Australians will spend New Year’s Eve in quarantine after touching down in Darwin on board flight QF176 from Paris

Concerns over Northern Territory COVID-19 cases

ABOUT 150 repatriated Australians will spend New Year’s Eve in quarantine after touching down in Darwin on Thursday on board flight QF176.

The flight from Paris landed about 10.55am with final numbers unable to be confirmed due to passengers still being processed.

The new arrivals will be due to exit the NT Centre for National Resilience on January 1, pending the return of a negative COVID-19 test from each passenger.

It means they will be the first group of quarantiners to leave Howard Springs after completing quarantine in 2021.

The flight landed as news broke of two new positive cases of coronavirus in children under 18, including a two-year-old boy, who had returned to Australia on board repatriation flights.

The two-year-old and a 16-year-old girl arrived in the NT on December 15 on a repatriation flight from Chennai.

The pair remains under the care of the AUSMAT team at the NT Centre for National Resilience.

Thirty-five of the Northern Territory’s 69 cases have been recorded since repatriation flights to the Territory began on October 23.

Not including numbers from Thursday’s Paris repatriation flight, a total of 1651 international arrivals have undertaken supervised quarantine at the Howard Springs Centre for National Resilience since international repatriation services begun.

All cases recorded in the Northern Territory have been related to international or interstate travel, with no cases of community transmission.

There are six more repatriation flights scheduled to land in Darwin, one of which, from London, will land here on December 30.

Along with Thursday’s arrivals, they will be the only arrivals spending New Year’s Eve in quarantine.

The remaining five will all land in 2021, with a flight from New Dehli landing on January 1, from Frankfurt on January 3, from London on January 16, and from New Dehli on January 18 and January 20.
