POLICE Dog Bally has been successful in locating six youths who allegedly stole quantities of liquor from a CBD bottle shop before getting into a waiting stolen vehicle.
It’s alleged the youths entered the bottle shop just before 11pm on Thursday and fled on foot with quantities of liquor before getting into a waiting sedan.
Inquiries determined the sedan used in the incident had been stolen from an Innisfail business premise on June 24.
Officers then received information regarding suspicious behaviour in a park reserve at Mooroobool about 2am on Friday.
Cairns Tactical Crime Squad officers found the allegedly stolen vehicle abandoned outside a Casella St unit complex, prompting Cairns Dog Squad team and Police Dog Bally (above) to attend.
PD Bally led his handler into parklands off Casella St where a female youth was located and arrested.
Continuing his search he found a quantity of allegedly stolen liquor and a pair of gloves.
He then tracked around the Casella St area, locating four youths hiding in the garden of a residence and then located a sixth youth in a nearby patch of bushland, hiding under vegetation.
All six youth were handed over to Cairns Property Crime Squad officers and the stolen vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
Investigations are continuing.
