Police chase: Murwillumbah man charged and extradited to Qld after pursuit in the Tweed

A tyre deflation device was allegedly used to bring an allegedly reckless driver and his Kia to a halt.

ELITE bikie-busting cops from Strike Force Raptor have helped police rein in an alleged reckless driver during a wild pursuit just over the border.

General duties Tweed police tried to stop a Kia Rio on Byangum Rd at Murwillumbah about 11am on Saturday.

Tweed Byron Police allege a 40-year-old man from Murwillumbah failed to stop for police and a pursuit began.

“The Kia Rio continued on Tweed Valley Way, Tumbulgum where police successfully deployed tyre deflation devices,” a police statement said.

“The vehicle has come to rest down an embankment where the driver has run from the vehicle into the cane fields. Police were involved in a foot pursuit and the male was arrested.”

Police charged a male with: police pursuit (not stop) drive dangerously, possession of a prohibited drug and driving while disqualified.

The Tweed man was wanted in Queensland on a return to prison warrant and was waiting to be extradited to Queensland on Saturday night.

Queensland Police was not able to provide more information about the extradition on Sunday.
