These are some of the stars of The World Of Birds, an exquisite picture-book collection featuring stunning photos of some of the most spectacular of the world’s 10,500 bird species.
From the weird to the wonderful, the rare to some of our most common species, bird enthusiasts are treated to 290 pages of colourful photographs covering 220 different bird families.
Readers get a glimpse of each bird in its unique habitat — hunting, fighting, feeding, flocking, roosting, caring for its young or migrating.
The collection boasts an array of species — from the intimidating king vulture to the hoopoe, the national bird of Israel, and the common barn owl.
Publisher New Holland hopes that the book will help to educate readers on the incredible variety of the planet’s birdlife. And it comes with a mission.
“Above all, it is hoped that the book will help to raise awareness of the diversity and fragility of birdlife worldwide, and encourage mo
re people to do all that they can to protect it,” the book’s introduction says.
