Picton crash: Boy, 5, dies after being hit by a truck
A five-year-old boy died in hospital after he was hit by a truck in Sydney’s south west yesterday afternoon. The boy went into cardiac arrest when he was struck in a Picton truck yard.

A boy has died after he was hit by a truck in a trucking yard south west of Sydney on Friday afternoon.
The five-year-old was hit in a trucking yard on Argyle St at Picton just after 5pm.
The boy went into cardiac arrest after being hit by the truck, paramedics treated him in the trucking yard and then transported him to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
Paramedics handed the boy over to Liverpool Hospital where he died.
The family of the boy were with him at the hospital on Friday night.
Neighbours said they hadn’t seen or heard anything unusual up until emergency services had arrived.
“I heard sirens and didn’t think much of it because the fire station is next door,” a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous said.
“We often see children inside (the trucking yard) with their parents … it’s just horrendous, what’s happened.”
Another neighbour said the yard had seen “several incidents” in recent times but was reluctant to comment further.
“There’s been a truck fire, and one time a truck came out of the yard and the back trailer came off,” they said.
“There’s always people coming and going. I really feel for the family.”
The 38-year-old male driver of the truck was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Police have cordoned off the crime scene at the trucking yard and were investigating.
