WHILE the coronavirus shutdown rattled Hobart’s hospitality industry, some small business owners haven’t been deterred from following their dreams.
On Monday, the young couple behind successful food van Ozus Coffee will open their first bricks and mortar premises in Battery Point.
Theo Kalimnios and Maggie Goldsmith, both 23, haven’t looked back since launching their Taroona-based van a year ago.
The business thrived throughout the coronavirus restrictions, which favoured takeaway-ready operators.
“It actually went really well during the coronavirus period when everyone was at home. They van was in an open space … it was a nice community feel,” Mr Kalimnios said.
“Things were going well and we saw this opportunity. It’s somehow worked in our favour.”
Mr Kalimnios said while it was a big decision to take on a lease, they were looking forward to the next chapter for their business.
“We are doing a simple small breakfast menu and some toasties, which we also did at the van, and some sweets and treats,” he said. “It was a big step, we are quite nervous but I guess we’ve got a lot of confidence from having the van and the support we’ve got from that.
“We’re thankful to everyone who has supported us all the way.”
The Ozus Coffee van will continue to operate in Taroona.
