Neighbourhood Watch 4 Kids is an e-learning portal targeted at kids to prepare them to start travelling independently in the community.

Neighbourhood Watch NT spokeswoman Ashleigh Ascoli said the portal, which includes safety games and a virtual neighbourhood to plan their route to and from school, allows parents and caregivers to start a conversation with their kids about safety.

It comes after Neighbourhood Watch decided to disband its Safety House program in 2018.

“We knew there was a need to fill the space with information tailored to children,” Ms Ascoli said.

“It is specifically designed to each family and each child so they can work out best places in their area that are going to be safest for their child to go.”

Education Minister Lauren Moss said the portal teaches kids about stranger danger but also aims to prevent traffic accidents.

“We have got road safety statistics in the Territory we really would rather not have,” she said.

“This is a really important part of making sure kids are aware of their surroundings.”

Superintendent Angela Stringer said NT Police were behind the initiative.

“It’s about people empowering themselves to be safe in our community and making sure our kids stay safe on our roads and we end up with a zero road toll for this year.”
