NSW school funding: 50 schools with the most government funds

The state’s largest Islamic school — which has been engaged in a funding battle with both the state and federal government — received the third largest amount of public money, an analysis of MySchool data reveals. SEARCH THE LIST

NSW schools: cashed up or cash strapped?

The third most state and federal government funded school in NSW in the three years to 2017 was the state’s largest Muslim school — Malek Fahd Islamic School (MFIS)

An in-depth analysis of the most recently available State and Federal Government funding data from the MySchool website by The Daily Telegraph has revealed the top 50 most funded schools in the state.

MFIS — which has three campuses at Greenacre, Hoxton Park and Beaumont Hills — took home more than $74.1m in funding.

But just last month, the Civil and Administrative Tribunal NSW rejected the school’s appeal not to pay back $11m in funding provided by the NSW Government. The ruling came two years after it won a battle in the Federal Court after the Federal Government withheld funding over claims the school was not spending the money on educating its students.

Southern Cross Public School in East Ballina is NSW’s most funded school.

In the three years to 2017, the school received $93.8m in funding — of that $74m came from the State Government and $19.8 million from the Federal Government.

But the school was last year set to receive $1.3m less than its 2017 funding.

Over the same three year period, the school that received the second most funding was All Saints College (St Mary’s Campus) in Maitland, collecting $82.4m.
